Plaque buildup in the arteries that supply the heart is a major risk factor for heart attack. Evaluation of data from the PROMISE Trial (Prospective Multicenter Imaging Study for Evaluation of Chest Pain) found that, although women tend to have plaque buildup less often than men, it takes less buildup to cause serious problems than in men.
