Serial Snackers Now 21% of Population

In the latest evidence that day-long snacking is overtaking traditional mealtimes, a new report says more than one in five Americans-21%-now graze on snacks all day long, skipping meals completely. These opportunist eaters dont even concentrate their snacking in mini-meals, according to IRIs Times & Trends; instead, they grab food and drink throughout the day as the opportunity arises, with little consideration as to whether they are eating a meal or a snack. Not surprisingly, opportunist eaters tend to consume a less-healthy diet. According to the survey of 3,000 Americans, two-thirds of these snackers are female, and a majority live in one- or two-person households-many of them living a bachelor/bachelorette life.
