Q: I’ve taken your advice to heart and want my family to eat more fish. Can you suggest a family friendly recipe?
A: Judith C. Thalheimer, RD, LDN, executive editor of this newsletter, answers: “Fish and seafood are part of a heart-healthy dietary pattern. There are many varieties of fish and many ways to prepare them: baked, grilled, panfried, poached, air-fried, steamed, or stewed are all good choices. Fish is great hot or cold (cooked, or raw if sourced from a reputable supplier or prepared by a trained chef), on its own, in a sandwich, or in mixed dishes like soups, stews (such as bouillabaisse), curries, and savory pies.
“This recipe is a simple way to make any white fish into a family friendly meal. Corn tortillas are a tasty, traditional, whole grain alternative to white flour tortillas. To round out the meal, add brown rice and canned refried beans (choose a brand with little or no saturated fat and as little sodium as possible). I hope it’s a hit!”
