It’s Never Too Late to Lose Weight

It may seem as if it’s harder to lose weight as we get older, but the results of a new study suggest it’s possible. The retrospective study, published in the journal Clinical Endocrinology, examined weight loss in morbidly obese adults enrolled in hospital-based weight loss programs in the United Kingdom. Meaningful weight loss (seven percent of body weight, on average) was seen in the program, and was similar in adults age 60+ years vs. under 60 years.

The weight loss programs included in this study focused on behavior and lifestyle changes, not medications or surgery. The results suggest that people at any age can make lifestyle changes that lead to weight loss.
