Grass-fed beef (from cows fed grass or other forage) has more omega-3 fatty acids than grain-fed beef (from cows fed a grain-based diet for the final months of their lives). Since omega-3s can have anti-inflammatory effects in the body, some people choose grass-fed beef in the hopes it will be a healthier alternative to grain-fed. (Inflammation is a complex process, but there is some evidence that diet can affect inflammation signaling, which can impact the chronic inflammation tied to conditions such as cancer and type 2 diabetes.)
