Health-conscious takeout customers are going crazy for chia seeds, quinoa, almond milk and kale, according to the online ordering site GrubHub. Comparing takeout orders from almost 30,000 restaurants in more than 600 US cities in the first quarter of this year to the same period in 2013, chia orders were up 140%, quinoa and almond milk up 110%, and kale up 99%. Also seeing increases were raw foods, gluten-free foods and pressed juices. Women were the most likely to order these takeout foods perceived as healthier (44% more than men) and college students the least. Cities leading in adoption of these food trends were Boulder (Colo.), Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, New York, San Jose, San Diego, St. Louis, Miami and Austin (Texas).
