Q: I’ve read about research associating high vitamin A intake with bone loss. Do I need to worry about the levels of vita- min A in multivitamins, since Im at risk for osteoporosis?

Answer :A Bess Dawson-Hughes, MD, director of Tufts HNRCA Bone Metabolism Laboratory, answers: The amount of vitamin A in multivitamins is reasonable, but I would not take more supplemental vitamin A than that. Some recommend two multivitamins in order to boost your vitamin D intake (for bone health), but this is a bad idea. Similarly, some supplements advertised for their vitamin D content contain a lot of vitamin A and I would avoid these as well-you can tell by looking on the label.
