Cancer Deaths Keep Dropping

Americansí rate of deaths from cancer is down 20% from its peak in 1991, according to a new American Cancer Society report. The annual report looked at statistics from 2009, the most recent year for which data is available. Large decreases in menís deaths from lung and prostate cancer and womenís deaths from breast cancer led the decline in mortality. In 2013, the society predicted 1,660,290 new US cancer cases will be diagnosed and 580,350 Americans will die of the disease. Lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer mortality, accounting for 28% of male and 26% of female cancer deaths.
