Ask Tufts Experts November 2014 Issue

Q. You recently warned about possible interactions between coenzyme Q-10 and blood-pressure medications. Can you elaborate?

A. According to the US National Library of Medicine, “Coenzyme Q-10 seems to decrease blood pressure. Taking coenzyme Q-10 along with medications for high blood pressure might cause your blood pressure to go too low.”

Recently on the Doctor Oz show, it was suggested that people with high bp take the co q 10 along with their blood pressure medication for at least three months to see if it lowers it.
The dose suggested was 200 milligrams per day.
